Mid-Level Fire Protection Engineer

Become a part of an exciting company that designs and delivers complex projects across North America and have a hand in transforming tomorrow. You will have the chance to work on complex projects for our private sector clients across industries along with various governmental agencies. Working with other members of our team, you’ll help grow our business by expanding our client base and playing a key role in winning new projects. You will also have the opportunity to visit project sites, learn about executing large engineering projects, and participate in growing a small company. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve been looking for someone just like you.  In State Colorado preferred.

We seek a mid-level Fire Protection Engineer with at least eight (8) years of experience to join our rapidly growing High Performance Facilities team. With a focus on federal government agencies including GSA, Military bases, and Veterans Facilities this person can be located remotely.


Job Description

Working tandemly with other staff Engineers, this person will lead the fire protection effort and can look forward to the following responsibilities:

  • Deliver Fire Protection Engineering subject matter expertise.
  • Independently create and evaluate design analyses, conceptual designs, program requirements, calculations, equipment selection and layout, and system selection and layout for the following:
    • Fire Suppression Systems
    • Fire Alarm and Mass Notification Systems
    • Clean Agent Systems
    • Smoke Management Systems
    • Life Safety Code and Building Code Analysis including site inspections and surveys.
    • Evacuation maps design and assessments
  • Collaborate in a design team environment, working together with engineers, designers, and project managers.
  • Take ownership of small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Moderate level interface with mission partners, clients, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to prepare, validate, and deliver key design efforts.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • Willingness to learn; ability to work semi-independently as well as on teams; self-motivated.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Certified Fire Protection Engineer (CFPE)
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in Fire Protection Engineering for federal government agencies
  • Moderate-to-advanced knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), International Building Codes, Life Safety Codes, and NFPA Codes and Standards.
  • Have the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain Clearance.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks is a plus.
  • Up to approximately 25% domestic travel will be required.

Mid-Level Structural Engineer

Essential Functions:

Reporting to the Principals of the Company and performing the specific duties including but not limited to:

- Performing Structural Engineering duties including:

  • Creating and reviewing specifications, drawings, design packages, and calculations
  • Creating and reviewing RFQ, proposals, estimates
  • Analyzing geotechnical data
  • Designing of steel and wood buildings (commercial and residential), concrete foundations

- Use of specialty software as required

- Solid understanding and ability to adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations

- Ability to carry out effective technical and feasibility studies, as well as site investigations

- Ability to effectively monitor and drive project activities

- Ability to prepare safety and function analyses

- Typical projects include commercial and industrial buildings, infrastructure, and foundations

- Perform other duties as directed by the Principals

 

Required Experience, Education, and Certification:

  • Previous Engineering experience of at least 6 years
  • PE is required
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • 5+ years of relevant commercial or government experience
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.
